NOTE TO ALL FACULTY DEVELOPING NEW PROGRAM PROPOSALS
In May 2000, the UAPC considered a recommendation to ensure that students are able to complete new undergraduate programs in 4 years, or in a reasonable time. Courses should be available to students and the credit requirements, usually no more than 120 credits, should be appropriate for a 4 year program. Programs with higher credit loads should be explicit about planning for completion. The following motion was passed unanimously: As part of the review of new undergraduate program approvals, the UAPC will examine whether proposals make it clear how students can complete the degree in four years, or in a timely fashion if more than four years are necessary.
In April 2008, the UAPC endorsed the use of the Wisconsin Experience as a framework for describing the student experience at UW-Madison and endorsed the Essential Learning Outcomes as goals and expectations for student learning. All new program proposals presented in Fall 2008 and going forward should address the ways in which the program aligns with the Wisconsin Experience framework and evaluates student progress to the Essential Learning Outcomes.
